MikuMikuDance

MikuMikuDance (commonly abbreviated to MMD) is a freeware animation program that lets users animate and create 3D animation movies of the Vocaloids. The MikuMikuDance program itself was programmed by Yu Higuchi (HiguchiM) and has gone through significant upgrades since its creation.

Yu Higuchi is one of the leading 3D program developers of Vocaloid characters on Nico Nico Douga and is most well known as the creator of MikuMikuDance.

History of HiguchiM and MikuMikuDance:

On October 2007, shortly after Miku Hatsune was introduced, some 3D animators began to post 3D Promotional Videos of Miku on Nico Nico Douga. However, because each creator had their own different 3D programs which were difficult to utilize, fans with little or no knowledge of 3D animation skills had little opportunities to make similar videos of their own unless they invested a lot of time just learning the basics of each software.

Fortunately, on the 24th of February 2008, Yu Higuchi released MikuMikuDance (MMD) as a free software. This program simplified many aspects of 3D animation creation and its user friendliness, ease and simplicity attracted many creators. Soon, it became a worthy alternative to other existing 3D programs and fans can now publish 3D videos of vocaloids on video-streaming websites such as Nico Nico Douga and Youtube.

Notice: Yu Higuchi does not guarantee the proper work of fanmade models on MMD platform.

On May 26, 2011 he announced he would retire from developing MMD.

Vocaloid-P Data Packs

As well as the engine, it is aso possible to buy the VSG files used for songs made by famous producers. The first of the Vocaloid-P Data Series packs was released with the Vocaloid 3 engine and can be purchased seperately. Previously, the majority of VSQ files had been recreated by fans and not the producers themselves.

Naturally, one cannot use these files for commerical use without premission of the original producer. However, they can be used for private and non-commerical use. You will also need the Vocaloid 3 software, either full or tiny, to be able to use these packages.
